On Monday, Patrick Swayze lost his battle with Pancreatic Cancer.  Today Mary Travers of Peter, Paul, and Mary passed away from Leukemia and the actor Henry Gibson, of Laugh In and most recently of Boston Legal, passed from Cancer also.

I'm taking a break from entering Cross Stitch patterns into Excel, so I thought I'd do this Meme:

So here's how it works:
1. Open your music library.
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question, type the song that's playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button.
6. Don't lie and try to pretend your cool.

Opening Credits: I Feel So Bad, The Essential 60's Masters - Elvis Presley
Waking Up: Handle With Care, Travelling Wilburys - Travelling Wilburys
First Day at School: Jackie Brown, Big Daddy - John Mellencamp
Falling in Love: I'm Counting on You, The Complete 50's Masters - Elvis Presley

You Are "Love Shack"

If you were transported back to the 80s, you would enjoy anything and everything underground.

You love the alternative aspects of 80s culture, and you're a bit disappointed that they've been forgotten over time.

You'd be goth, punk, new wave, or a rapper. Just not a yuppie, a preppy, or a jock!

You would relish living in a time where identifying with a subculture actually meant something.

You know you're in the SCA when you are looking for friends on Facebook and realize that after 20 years, you don't know the real names of most of the people that you vacation with at every opportunity.  : |

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make! but I'm going to try
- What I create will be just for you.
- It'll be done this year.
I may sew something, crochet or whatever. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure! It may be something I've never tried before but I thought that you'd like it, so please be tolerant of my learning curve! or it may be something I've done a million times that I am very confident that you'll love. who knows?
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange. but know that I'll try and make you something that I think you'll appreciate. cuz otherwise whats the point?

The catch? You have to post this in your journal.

Number 6, Be Seeing You . . .

When I was in 6th grade, my parents . . . well, mainly my Dad, introduced me to The Prisoner. The Prisoner is considered by many to be the most unusual and thought-provoking television series ever made. When it was first shown in England in 1967 there had certainly been nothing like it before and, many would argue, nothing has surpassed it since. It first aired on CBS in 1968. My Dad introduced it to me on PBS (KCTS 9) in 1978. I knew I was watching something special.  As I grew older, I picked up the Video Tapes and eventually the DVDs.

In The Prisoner, Patrick McGoohan plays a man who resigns from a top secret position and is abducted from his London home. He finds himself in a beautiful village where everything is bright and cheerful - the people, their clothes, the buildings, the flowers. But despite this rosy exterior, the village serves a sinister purpose. People are forcibly brought there in order to have their valuable knowledge protected or extracted. Village residents are assigned a number - the Prisoner is Number Six. Chief interrogator and administrator is Number Two, but he isn't the boss - an unseen Number One is the boss. Many episodes revolve around Number Two trying to find out why Number 6 resigned and Number 6 thwarting his efforts. It transcends the labels of "Spy Thriller" or "Sci Fi."  It is a program that not only demands attention be paid to it, it requires it.  It is not for casual viewing but rather active engagement.  Although there are only 17 episodes, the show has been studied and disected for 40 years by fans, clubs, and college campuses.  McGoohan says: "I believe passionately in the freedom of the individual."  The Prisoner is basically about the dehumanizing, the loss of individuality, which is happening to us all. People are the prisoners of our society. This series is a comment on life.

After a long career, Patrick McGoohan passed away
on January 13, 2009, from a short illness.  Be Seeing You.

Grrr'l has been very mobile lately and has gotten into the habit of pulling books off the bookshelf in her bedroom.  I have a collection of comic strip collections in there with the rest of the childrens books.  B.C, Wee Pals, Chas Adamms, and of course Peanuts.  Many of these were my parents before they were mine.  The other day, Grrr'l pulled out It's a Dog's Life, Charlie Brown (1962, from a collection of strips between 1960 - 1962)  I started leafing through it and came across this frame:

There's something vaguely disturbing about Linus telling Lucy he forgot his rubbers.
